New Volvo XC60 launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Volvo has officially launched the updated XC60 in South Africa.

The SUV now sports a restyled exterior, an improved cabin with new premium finishes, and an expanded features list.

“The new XC60 delivers clear, practical improvements in design, technology, and comfort, building on what has already made this model a global success,” said Grant Locke, Managing Director of Volvo Car South Africa.

“These updates refine that proven recipe, ensuring drivers enjoy enhanced performance, smarter technology, and a safer, more comfortable driving experience without compromising the qualities that made the XC60 a benchmark in its segment.”

The XC60 is available in four specifications, and prices start at R1,058,400.

Powertrain

The new Volvo range kicks off with the B5, which is a mild hybrid that combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V battery and an integrated starter motor.

It generates a total of 183kW and 350Nm, which is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

This lets it accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a brisk 6.9 seconds.

Furthermore, the mild hybrid additions help it to achieve an average fuel consumption of 7.6l/100km.

The other option is the T8, which is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that pairs the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a powerful electric motor.

As a result, the T8 puts down an impressive 340kW and 709Nm, which cuts the acceleration time to just 4.8 seconds.

The e-motor is powered by a 19kWh battery, which affords an electric driving range of 81km.

Volvo claims that the PHEV has an average fuel economy of just 1.8l/100km, provided you make extensive use of the electric mode.

Features

Visually, the XC60 has received a reworked air intake and the brand’s updated Iron Mark badge, bringing it in line with the facelifted XC90.

It also has darker rear lights, new alloy wheel designs, and three new colour options – Forest Lake, Aurora Silver, and Mulberry Red.

The cabin aims for a modern, minimalist aesthetic with new decorative inlays, redesigned cupholders, an improved wireless charging pad, and additional storage.

One difference between the trims is that the B5 Core and T8 Plus have a bright finish on the the roof rails, grille, and side window trim, while the B5 Plus and T8 Ultra use a glossy black finish.

LED headlights are standard across the range, and the alloy wheels start at 18 inches on the Core, which goes up to 19 and 20 inches on the higher trim levels.

Larger 22-inch rims are available as an option.

A panoramic sunroof is also included on all models except the Core, where it is an option.

Upholstery options include ventilated Nappa leather, Navy Herringbone Textile, and Nordico Vinyl.

The B5 cabin has Metal Mesh inlays, while the other models can have a Natural Wood or White Wood finish.

All models have a Orrefors crystal gear selector.

Other standard equipment includes heated front seats, an electric tailgate, climate control, a heated multifunction steering wheel, and keyless entry and start.

The B5 Core has a manual driver’s seat, while all the others have an electric seat with memory settings.

Dominating the dashboard is a new 11.2-inch free-standing infotainment screen with a 21% higher pixel density than previous models, which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Complementing the touchscreen is a 12.3-inch digital driver display.

The T8 Ultra also comes with a Bowers & Wilkins stereo, which is an option on the lower trims.

Standard driving aids on the Volvo include adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation support, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, hill start assist, and hill descent control.

The higher trims will then add Pilot Assist, blind spot detection, side parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.
