ALGIERS - The President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Tuesday stressed that the official visit of President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Algeria reflects the shared desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
In a joint press statement following their talks at the Presidential Palace, President Tebboune welcomed his Somali counterpart and his accompanying delegation, emphasizing that the visit, "the second of its kind, reflects our shared desire to strengthen our cooperation and our commitment to build bridges of cooperation and exchange views on issues of interest to both countries."
The President of the Republic pointed out that he discussed with his Somali counterpart opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, fisheries, pharmaceuticals and higher education.
With respect to higher education, the President of the Republic said: "We note that we have taken a step toward seizing the available opportunities to step up cooperation, as "Algeria will welcome 110 Somali students to receive training during the 2026-2027 academic year."
"We are in the process of enhancing this step and offering other scholarships in vocational, police and defence training."
